Vijayadashmi- Victory of right over Wrong.

The festival of Vijayadashmi or Dushherra, symbolizes the victory of Right over Wrong and is celebrated every year.Today, earlier in the day, I was asked by my son as to why we need to burn the effigy of Ravana every year. To this my reply was simple,I told him that we certainly need to be reminded every year that despite all its might evil is defeated time and again, and every time. The festival also highlights another aspect ,that it is not “feeling good” winning over “feeling bad”.To put it simply , what is “right” may not necessarily feel good, similarly what is “bad” may not necessarily make you feel bad.Like bribing a cop is wrong but if it let’s you off Scot-free, may not necessarily make you feel bad. Some would say that the righteous path is not an easy path to tread on,but than it certainly is not impossible. It reminds me of something I used to read regularly many many years ago,and it said – ” to choose the harder right than the easier wrong“.And I feel ,it is this thought that can lead us on to our righteous victories over wrong in our little lives.
May Maa Durga, the bestower of knowledge and strength be your guiding light on this onerous journey.
